MJ Levy-Dickson has dedicated her career to exploring the connection between the natural world and human emotion. Through painting, public installations, and mixed media, she draws on sights, sounds, and textures to reveal the threads that bind us to our surroundings. Her expressionist work often transforms music into visual form—translating the rhythms of jazz into wind patterns across paper and sand. As MJ explains, “where the lines are harmonious, they’re visually pleasing which correlates with sounds. If the lines look good they sound good.” A longtime Nantucket resident, MJ has witnessed the island’s transformation since the 1970s. The landscapes and daily discoveries of the island continue to inspire her, from early memories of picnics at Great Point to the bird’s nests collected on her walks that sparked her watercolor series. The Looms has represented MJ’s work for over 20 years. “Her long-time connection to the island and the ways in which she captures the natural world through her art is why we love representing MJ,” says Bess Clarke, Partner.
