Why Cotton?
Cotton is a natural plant fiber known for comfort, breathability, and durability. In a throw, those qualities create an easy layer for daily use, light enough for warm weather and substantial enough for a cool evening indoors or outside.
At Nantucket Looms, cotton is chosen for its familiar hand, relaxed texture, and ability to soften with use. It is the throw to keep close by: on the sofa after a swim, across a porch chair at dusk, folded at the foot of a guest bed, or packed for a picnic by the water.

How Each Cotton Throw is Made
Each cotton throw is crafted in our second-floor weaving studio above the Main Street shop on Nantucket. Our weavers begin with cotton flake yarn sourced from North Carolina, then select colors and determine the pattern, structure, and finished feel of the piece.
The loom is dressed by hand before weaving begins. Threads are wound, guided, tied, and set into place with care. As the shuttle moves across the loom, the cotton takes on texture and dimension. Once the throw reaches its full length, it is cut from the loom, finished with hand-knotted tassels, and completed with a Nantucket Looms label sewn by hand.
Choosing A Cotton Throw
For Everyday Rooms
Everyday living calls for pieces that are both beautiful and useful. Our neutral cotton throws, in shades of oatmeal, ivory, and soft gray, add warmth and texture to living rooms, guest rooms, and bedrooms—bringing comfort to the spaces you use every day.
For Coastal Interiors
Inspired by the colors and patterns of the coast, our blue-hued and striped cotton throws bring an effortless sense of Nantucket to your home. Drape one over a porch chair, layer it across a beach house sofa, or fold it at the foot of a bed to create inviting spaces for family and summer guests.

Caring for a Cotton Throw
Cotton is made for everyday use, and Nantucket Looms cotton throws are designed to become part of daily living. Dry cleaning is suggested to help preserve the original texture and color, especially for a more polished finish.
To care for your cotton throw, machine-wash in cold water with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle, or hand-wash if preferred. Tumble dry on low heat. The hand-tied fringe may become lightly tangled during washing but can be gently separated with your fingers. With time and repeated laundering, the cotton will soften and develop the relaxed character that makes it even more enjoyable to live with.

For Home, Porch, Beach, and Guest Rooms
A handwoven cotton throw is the layer that moves through the house. It belongs on the sofa during a slow morning, across a porch chair after dinner, at the foot of a guest bed, or close by for a beach picnic and an evening breeze.
Because cotton is breathable, durable, and familiar to the touch, it suits homes where beauty and use belong together. It is a thoughtful gift for housewarmings or host weekends, and for anyone who wants a handwoven piece they can reach for often.
