The Ivory Heart Child’s Purse by Janet Carreau is a small, charming piece that reflects her careful approach to traditional lightship construction. The basket is woven in natural cane and finished with a cherry rim, giving the petite form a warm, refined edge. A carved ivory heart accents the front, adding a gentle decorative note. The arched leather handle is secured cleanly at the sides, offering a soft contrast to the structured weave. Inside, a pink‑and‑white striped liner gathers neatly at the top, protecting the contents inside with a drawstring closure. About the Artist

Janet Carreau is a Nantucket Lightship Basket maker whose work reflects the island’s maritime heritage. Fascinated with these iconic baskets since childhood, she began creating them more than thirty years ago.

Each basket is handmade and one of a kind, woven using traditional techniques and adorned with ivory and ebony carvings and scrimshaw.

Carreau is a member of the Nantucket Lightship Basket Association. Her work has been displayed at the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum and has received numerous awards for outstanding craftsmanship.

Shipping & Returns

Ground Shipping:
Most purchases are shipped to arrive within 5 to 7 business days of receipt of the order.  Sorry, but we do not ship to P.O. or APO Boxes at this time.
All orders from our inventory are shipped via UPS Ground. Furniture & Area Rug orders will be drop-shipped by our partners.

Expedited Shipping:
All orders placed before 12pm Monday-Friday will be shipped out the same day. Orders placed after 12pm Monday-Friday will be shipped out the morning of the next business day. Orders placed on Saturday, Sunday or holidays will be shipped the next business day.

This item is available for free on-island delivery & curbside pickup.
