The Handcarved Whimbrel Shorebird by folk artist William Sarni captures the distinctive form of one of the coast's most recognizable shorebirds. Carefully carved and finished by hand, the sculpture highlights the whimbrel's graceful profile, from its long curved bill to its streamlined body, with rich, earthy tones that bring warmth and character to the piece.

Mounted on a simple driftwood-inspired base, the decoy reflects the enduring tradition of coastal bird carving while showcasing Sarni's thoughtful craftsmanship. Whether displayed on a shelf, mantel, or desk, it serves as a tribute to the birds and landscapes that have long shaped life along the shore.

About the Artist

Folk artist William Sarni grew up observing the natural world around him, particularly the songbirds, ducks and shore birds native to his New England home. Those observations has served as the subjects of his work, still finding inspiration watching these birds in their natural habitat from his own home set along the Weir River.
