The Handcarved Curlew Decoy by William Sarni celebrates the enduring tradition of American shorebird carvings. Handcrafted from wood and mounted on a natural wood base, the piece captures the distinctive silhouette of the curlew, with its sweeping bill and graceful stance rendered through careful handwork. Created by folk artist William Sarni, this carving embraces the simplicity and character that define traditional folk art. The rich, earthy finish highlights the sculptural form of the bird while allowing the craftsmanship of the carving to remain front and center. Inspired by the birds that inhabit coastal landscapes, this handcrafted decoy brings a touch of maritime heritage to shelves, mantels, and tabletops alike.

About the Artist

Folk artist William Sarni grew up observing the natural world around him, particularly the songbirds, ducks and shore birds native to his New England home. Those observations has served as the subjects of his work, still finding inspiration watching these birds in their natural habitat from his own home set along the Weir River.
