The Handcarved Basswood Lightship Basket by artist Tim Herlocker is a remarkable tribute to Nantucket's iconic basketmaking tradition. Carved entirely from a single piece of basswood, the sculpture faithfully recreates the intricate details of a classic Nantucket Lightship Basket, from the woven pattern and swinging handle to the finely rendered lid and carved shell finial.

The warm natural wood highlights both the beauty of the material and the extraordinary skill required to transform a solid block into an object that appears woven by hand. Blending artistry, craftsmanship, and island heritage, this distinctive piece celebrates the enduring legacy of Nantucket basketmaking through masterful woodcarving.
