With an eight inch circumference, the Traditional Lightship Basket with Cherry Wood Base and Ivory Knobs by Janet Carreau reflects the classic proportions and clean weaving associated with Nantucket basketry. The rounded form is anchored by a smooth cherry wood base. At the rim, a pair of ivory knobs provides the functional hardware for the swing handle, giving the basket its familiar silhouette. Carreau’s attention to detail and finish keeps the piece refined without losing the handmade character that defines this tradition — a timeless example of island craft.

About the Artist

Janet Carreau is a Nantucket Lightship Basket maker whose work reflects the island’s maritime heritage. Fascinated with these iconic baskets since childhood, she began creating them more than thirty years ago.

Each basket is handmade and one of a kind, woven using traditional techniques and adorned with ivory and ebony carvings and scrimshaw.

Carreau is a member of the Nantucket Lightship Basket Association. Her work has been displayed at the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum and has received numerous awards for outstanding craftsmanship.

Ground Shipping:
Most purchases are shipped to arrive within 5 to 7 business days of receipt of the order.  Sorry, but we do not ship to P.O. or APO Boxes at this time.
All orders from our inventory are shipped via UPS Ground. Furniture & Area Rug orders will be drop-shipped by our partners.

Expedited Shipping:
All orders placed before 12pm Monday-Friday will be shipped out the same day. Orders placed after 12pm Monday-Friday will be shipped out the morning of the next business day. Orders placed on Saturday, Sunday or holidays will be shipped the next business day.
