Incorporating shades of black, charcoal and marine blue, our Seafarer Alpaca Throw is deep and dark, with subtle tonal changes as moody as the depths of the ocean.

Soft, durable, naturally hypoallergenic and even water repellent, our alpaca throws are perhaps our favorite handwovens we create. Each heirloom-quality throw is skillfully brought to life in our Main Street studio by a local master weaver using only the finest alpaca fibers sourced from Peru, a country renowned for its alpaca heritage. A beautiful and lasting piece of Nantucket to truly be enjoyed every day, completed with hand-knotted tassels.

    Crafted by hand from start to finish in our Main Street weaving studio.

    Our masterful artisans begin by thoughtfully selecting colors and fibers inspired by our surrounding landscape, then determine a pattern and desired weave structure for their design.

    Next they wind the fiber onto bobbins then wind the loom’s warp, a meticulously calculated process that sets the path of each and every thread used. These threads are manually connected to specific harnesses and securely hand-tied to “dress the loom”. Once this stage is complete, they can begin to weave.

    Countless passes of the shuttle commence, rhythmic, muted sounds of wooden pedals fill the studio and a beautiful textile begins to emerge. The handwoven process continues until the piece reaches its full length, at which point it is cut from the loom. Tassels are hand-knotted onto the ends, and a small label is hand-sewn onto the textile as the weaver’s final touch.

    As soft as fine cashmere yet remarkably durable and breathable, our handwoven alpaca throws are the ultimate in lasting comfort and style. Slightly heavier than other textiles we weave, they have a little bit of weight to them which allows for beautiful draping on your favorite chair or sofa.

    Cuddly memory of Nantucket!

    I was on island a couple of weeks ago and purchased this beautiful alpaca throw for my sitting room. It is lovely! The blues in it are complimentary to so many colors. It is soft and warm. Perfect to throw over my legs when the a/c is a little chilly and will be cozy warm when winter rolls around. I am very happy with the quality and look of my handmade throw!
