MEET NANTUCKET ARTIST LESLIE LINSLEY

Leslie Linsley, rightfully dubbed “the queen of decoupage” (The New Yok Times), keeps the traditional craft of decoupage alive with her beautiful collection of trinket boxes. For forty years, Leslie has carried on the legacy of her grandfather and is considered a master craftsman, writing a book on the subject, Leslie Linsley’s Decoupage, and having her work collected by icons such as Jacqueline Onassis and Oprah Winfrey. Leslie’s career began when she starting selling her work Nantucket Looms in the 1970’s. As the demand grew, her boxes were also sold at Tiffany’s, Cartier, Henri Bendel, and Bergdorf Goodman, but are now being exclusively sold at Nantucket Looms. Leslie uses 18th and 19th century colorful botanical patterns to decorate her whimsical boxes, made of beechwood.

Measuring three inches wide, they are the perfect size for storing delicate keepsakes. “I gift Leslie’s boxes to each of my girlfriends when they become engaged. Leslie gave me mine 16 years ago, which I keep on my dresser and put my rings in at night” (Bess Clarke, Nantucket Looms Partner). In addition to being a talented artist, Leslie is a well-respected and popular author, having written over seventy books on crafts, lifestyle, and decorating. Her most recent publication, Country Living Salvage Style: Decorate with Vintage Finds, showcases her passion for repurposing eclectic finds as a way to infuse charm and character into one’s home. Leslie and her husband, Jon, divide their time between Nantucket in Key West.
