Melissa MacLeod

Melissa MacLeod was born into a creative family and raised between New York and Los Angeles,
continuing a long lineage of visual artists. Her formative years were shaped by extensive travel
and time spent living at sea, experiences that exposed her to the visual language of diverse
cultures and the dramatic power of natural landscapes—enduring influences that continue to
inform her artistic practice.
After earning a BFA from Montserrat College of Art, McLeod moved to Nantucket, where she
became a founding force behind (X )Gallery, a contemporary space dedicated to exhibiting the
work of emerging artists from across the country. For twelve years, she curated group
exhibitions while also presenting her own painting, sculpture, and mixed-media works in solo
shows. Many of these pieces drew inspiration from working journeys through Europe, Central
America, Mexico, and Cuba. Work from this period is now held in private collections throughout
the United States and Europe.
MacLeod also served as art director for the feature film Grey Lady, designing key sets and
inspiring the film’s leading female character. The film, distributed internationally by Lionsgate,
features her paintings and sculptures as part of its visual narrative.
In addition to solo exhibitions on Nantucket, MacLeod has exhibited in New York and England.
She is currently represented by the Samuel Owen Gallery in Nantucket, Greenwich, Connecticut,
and Palm Beach. When not traveling, she lives and works on Nantucket, where her practice
continues to evolve
