John Williams has been working with wood for as long as he can remember, learning the craft from his father, uncle, and grandfathers in shops filled with tools that now carry deep family history. Over the years he built furniture, remodeled homes, and developed a love for the knots, grains, and quirks that give wood its character. His passion ultimately led him to woodturning, where the lathe became a central part of his practice. Williams now creates bowls, hollow forms, and vases from trees removed due to age, blight, or construction — giving each one a second life by revealing the beauty within the grain. He is drawn to simple shapes that honor the natural form of the tree and the stories held in its wood.
