Elizabeth Congdon

Elizabeth Congdon

Elizabeth Congdon grew up in New York City, just across the park from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where early encounters with Italian and Flemish Renaissance Masters and French Impressionists shaped her love of painting. She studied Art at UC Santa Cruz and spent her junior year in Florence immersed in classical drawing and painting techniques. In 1988 she began graduate study in the MFA Painting Program at Parsons School of Design, later leaving to pursue her painting career in Rhode Island and start a family. She completed her MFA in Painting at Laguna College of Art and Design in 2018.
For nearly three decades, Congdon has divided her time between Jamestown, Rhode Island, and Nantucket, Massachusetts, working and exhibiting her paintings in an annual Nantucket show. Her major projects include co‑founding the Jamestown Arts Center, producing a documentary film about a site‑specific Nutcracker Ballet, and presenting a large‑scale exhibition at the Newport Art Museum.
