Dale Rutherford

For fifteen years, Dale Rutherford’s Nantucket Lightship Baskets and woven treasures have held a special place at Nantucket Looms. Today, Dale focusses on weaving “minis”, precious heart-shaped baskets and woven cuff bracelets and bangles - the perfect Nantucket wrist accessory.

When she is not working on her craft, Dale teaches local kids at the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum; passing along to the younger generation a tradition first started by sailors during Nantucket’s whaling heyday in the mid 1800’s. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and walking in the island’s moors with her Border Collies.

We love Dale's work because she puts such an interesting and modern spin on a traditional and beloved Nantucket craft.
