For Winter Warmth: Our Handwoven Mohair Throws

For Winter Warmth: Our Handwoven Mohair Throws

Then there are times when we feel as if summer will never return and the winter blues are not just used to refer to the color of our blankets. So when the weather keeps us inside and we just want to curl up on the couch, we recommend one of our handwoven mohair throws.

The mohair fiber comes from the fleece of the Angora goat and is regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful natural fibers. Its natural wicking quality prevents dust and dirt to not adhere to the yarn fiber, allowing it to endure the test of time.

Mohair has been a Nantucket Looms staple since our founding in 1968, used in our throw blankets, scarves and wraps. Fluffy and soft, mohair is known for its warmth and dramatic high pile making it our “fluffiest” blanket.

"Even though our mohair throws and wraps are seemingly delicate being gauzy and lightweight, they are still soft and warm. Customers often tell me how delightfully surprised they are to discover that their wispy and fluffy throw is incredibly cozy.” - Becky Peraner, Partner

Our mohair products are available in the widest range of colors compared to all other fibers we use. This is due to the fiber’s unique ability to hold bold and bright colorful dyes.

“I love mohair for its versatility. It's what has allowed it to remain a symbol of our products since our founder, Andy Oates, used mohair to weave the first Nantucket Looms throws. Mohair had a place in home decor and style throughout the 70s, 80s & 90s, and its presence still holds true today, whether it’s used in a traditional living room or in a modern bedroom. Mohair is simple, classic elegance." -Becky Peraner
