Lost Ryder | David Wiggins

$ 4,000.00

In Lost Rider, David Wiggins conjures the raw power and emotional depth of the ocean through a strikingly abstract composition. At its heart, the painting evokes the image of a lone boat caught in a storm—its form fragmented, nearly consumed by the surging sea and sky.

Wiggins uses sweeping brushstrokes and layered textures to build a sense of movement and chaos, while a palette of rich, emotional blues, ranging from deep indigo to bright white, creates an atmosphere of both awe and danger. The effect is visceral: the viewer feels not just the motion of the waves, but the vulnerability of being at the mercy of nature’s force.

True to Wiggins’ signature style, Lost Rider straddles the line between representation and abstraction, inviting each viewer to interpret the scene through their own lens. It is a powerful meditation on isolation, strength, and the relentless beauty of the sea.

Artist David Wiggins left his New Hampshire home at seventeen and traveled across America looking for the Beat Generation. His colorful journeys led him to Europe, where he lived on the Greek fishing island of Poros. This experience began David’s long love affair with islands, and with painting. A passion for period antiques, decorating, and historic preservation led him to Nantucket in the early 1990s. An expressionist who has worked in many mediums, David paints from feeling and atmosphere. His years on Nantucket were ones of great inspiration, drawn from his love of the island’s old houses and sense of history. Today, David makes his home in New Hampshire.

History is important to David, whose family descended from colonial governor Thomas Wiggins, but he is forward-thinking when it comes to his art. David’s father was a restorer of old New England houses, a trade David picked up in addition to running the family business, Wiggins Brothers Antiques. His painting knows no one genre or medium; he is the rare truly versatile artist.
