Notable landscape painter Kenneth Layman is known for his billowy clouds that typically hover over his sprawling painted landscapes. Portraying that wispy quality of windswept clouds with an outline of ethereal and dreamy feelings, his clouds are one-of-a kind. With his Cloud Series, painted in oil on a small 6x4 board, Layman brings his dreamy skyscapes into a sweet, petite vignette.
What is most surprising about this very realistic depiction, is that it is crafted entirely from Layman’s imagination. He does not believe in using photographs or painting en plein air. As he explains it, “It's like I'm going to the movies with my life. I paint them from the part of me that I don't understand - and when they're done, I look at them and say 'that's what I wanted, needed to paint'. I've learned to get out of the way and let the painting happen, not to use my intellect at all."
