Folk artist William Sarni grew up observing the natural world around him, particularly the songbirds, ducks and shore birds native to his New England home. Those observations has served as the subjects of his work, still finding inspiration watching these birds in their natural habitat from his own home set along the Weir River.
The art of carving bird decoys has been a tradition in the Cape & Islands for decades, upheld and supported by a strong following of bird lovers who like to collect various decoys ranging in detail from primitive folk art to elaborate works.
