You, Dad and the Grey Lady

You, Dad and the Grey Lady

Nothing beats spending quality time with Dad on his special day. Here on Nantucket, we’re lucky to have the Grey Lady on our side, helping out with beautiful scenery, fresh-air activities and local, sustainable refreshments dads of all ages can enjoy.

If the weather’s right, sailing or kayaking in Nantucket harbor is a wonderful way to spend Father’s Day afternoon, taking in the rhythms of the sea and salty air. If you don’t have your own boat or kayak, Sea Nantucket always have ones to rent.

Or, treat Dad to a Great Point Beach Permit from the Trustees of Reservations for an excursion to Great Point or Coatue. Be sure to bring your binoculars for bird and seal watching! We also recommend picking up sandwiches and cookies from Something Natural before making the journey out to the tip of the island.

An afternoon bike ride through the moors is also a great way to spend the day or if you would prefer to stick to the safety of the bike baths, head out to Cisco and stop by the brewery to rehydrate.  Bartlett’s Farm has a nice selection of snacks to pick up while you are out there.

To round out the day, you can head out to Surfside for a little surf casting—the striped bass are biting now! You never know, you may be able to catch and cook a very special Father’s Day feast. Dad would be so proud.
