The very talented Jocelyn Sandor Urban beautifully represents a favorite spot on the island, Easy Street Wharf, where we all love to admire the dinghies and dories bobbing in the water and listen to the fog horn of the ferries blow. The reflection of the boats in the water is a metaphor to the contemplation one feels as they gaze out to the harbor. Her wispy brush strokes are the perfect parallel to the serenity of this scene in painting and reality.
Urban grew up in a family of artists learning from her grandmother and father. She attended high school in Stamford CT, and went on to Skidmore College to earn a BS in Fine Art, then a MFA in Printmaking from Umass/Amherst. After college she began her art career exhibiting portraits of horses and dogs, which is what she is most known for and has done for over 30 years. She also enjoys landscape painting and paints with Nantucket local artists Elle Foley and David Lazarus.
Her landscape works depict particular places on Nantucket, sometimes the way they used to be. She and her husband also own a greeting card company featuring her portraits of dogs and horses which depict the humorous side of life with horses.
Designed in the late 1960’s for Nantucket Looms, our classic boatneck sweater never goes out of style. Originally designed to be worn without a shirt underneath, the boatneck can be worn in a more fitted fashion or select the next size up for a looser fit. The saddle stitch shoulders and high boatneck collar are distinctive to this sweater. Unisex sizing.
