Antique Redware Bowl

$ 385.00

Redware is a style of earthenware pottery using clay with a high iron content that gives the finished piece a reddish-brown color. Originally from Europe, this style was popular  in the American Colonies since redware was abundant and affordable. The nature of this pottery, however, is quite brittle which causes easy damage and making redware difficult to find in good condition today. A special liquid clay and contrasting glaze color were used to create the squiggle shapes seen on this bowl. Another common practice in redware pottery called "slip trail". Dating to the late 18th/early 19th century.

Overall good condition. Some signs of repair. Small chips throughout.
